-Evidence of the affair.. (Taylor Jenkins) Book review..
An anticipated read for December?
Favorite quote: ‘I am not alone at the party.. You are at this miserable party with me. And it brings a smile to my face to be standing next to you.’
I discovered this story on Prime Reads and was thrilled at the thought of a short piece of work by the author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.. The tale, told in epistolary form, details the correspondence between two people whose spouses are having an affair with each other..
Taylor Jenkins Reid creates fulfilling character arcs and intriguing emotional journeys, encompassing topics from loss to longing in simple, often moving prose.. The letters read almost like diary entries to begin with, as each of the writers pours out their insecurities to the only other person who can intimately understand their situation..
Without giving away any spoilers, I thought I was going to be frustrated by the ending.. I grew, in a very short space of time, to care about the characters and want the very best for them. However, the characters’ circumstances by the end were both realistic and hopeful, satisfying my need for closure while still taking me pleasantly by surprise..
I read this story in under an hour and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, stirring read.. I discovered Taylor Jenkins Reid back in September when I read Daisy Jones and The Six and I fell in love with her writing, to be honest.. She weaves her storyline with such sharp aspects that I want to read more and more of her works..
Evidence of the affair is a short story/novella that involves ripples in relationships.. It begins with a woman sending an email to an unknown person with who’s wife her husband is having an affair with..
It all goes with the continuation of the letters exchanged between them as both of them feel betrayed and wronged by their spouses.. In less than 100 pages the author writes about the lives we want to live, the life we chose to live, aspirations, life decisions, contentment, affection, disloyalty and a lot more..
The thing that I liked about this story is that we don’t meet the characters here instead we just come to know them through what they feel as we read what they write.. A raw, lucid and beautiful short story that advises us to make decisions however tough it can be if it makes us feel happy and lively..
